Zero Waste

at Smart Island World Congress

Towards Zero Waste is an initiative launched at Smart City Expo World Congress in 2015 in order to reduce
waste and increase the efficient use of our resources, working in line with the event's core concepts
of creating efficient, inclusive and sustainable cities.
For the first time Smart Island World Congress has joined the Towards Zero Waste initiative which is based on
the three main ways to generate less waste according to the European Commission's Circular Economy strategy:
the use of fewer materials, reusing and recycling products, and no food waste.

These are some of the ways that visitors, exhibitors and the events
themselves contributed to Towards Zero Waste:

Use of
less materials

Introduction of electronic management in procedures for invoicing and subscription to services.
QR code points are set up at strategic places throughout the event's venue to download the congress app.

food waste

The EcoTouch Meetings program is part of Meliá Hotels International's commitment to environmental protection and sustainability as added value. The program includes actions such as the selective collection of waste materials, and the use of healthy and seasonal Mediterranean produce.

The event production company, Trui Espectacles, implements a green system of waste management that covers all of the activities associated with the design, manufacture and assembly of the congress stands.
