Transforming Tourism into a Strategic Industry

Monday, 23
18:00 - 18:45
Auditorium

The Tourism industry should be treated as a Strategic Industry for the development of most of the Islands. The potential of Tourism in the XXIst Century is enormous due to the exponential increase that has had the number of tourists in the world. In 1990 it was estimated in 3 million people, in 2000 was 1Billion and the forecast for 2050 is 2,5 Billions per year. This growth has great impact on the employment and the transformation of the territory as it opens new opportunities in the economic and social fabric. Being smart, means adapting to maximize the positive impact of tourism's flows while neutralizing its potential negative side effects. Chairmans of the principals hotels chains of the region will address this dilemma and give practical examples.
